HOW I ORGANISE MY PLANNER with KIKKI.K

Wednesday, December 12, 2018

I'm old school, I still use a pen + paper diary, scribble on notepads and write down my priorities. I like to think it's because I'm a creative and physically creating lists or visually organising my planner can motivate me in ways that another notification can't.

I won't create plans without my diary, absolutely everything goes in it and if it's not in there, it's almost a guarantee it won't get done.
Hot tip: Same goes for the opposite, so if you want to force me to do something, just put it in my diary!

For this reason, choosing a diary each year is a big commitment, this is going to be my partner in crime for the next 12 months. It has to be perfect. It's also the reason why this year, for the first time in my life I chose a planner instead of a diary.

Wild right?

I know, I know, I'm living on the edge here. But in all seriousness, I wanted to get my hands on a planner so that I could do what I like doing most; creating something unique, tailored to my needs and that would motivate me to live my dream life every single day.

Here's some of the things I did to perfect my planner:

PERSONALISE:

I'm a sucker for personalising, so I added a few things to make my planner feel like it was really mine. I printed out a few polaroid photos with my Instax printer (you can print images from your phone onto polaroid film, yay!), and hole punched them on to different pages.
I also added a little 'R' notepad which I had laying around to the inside cover so now when I open it up it totally feels like me.

MOTIVATE:

I'm a big believer in using different aids to motivate success. In fact, I believe having the motivation to work for it is the key to achieving any of your goals.
I placed affirmation cards on random days throughout the year to keep me inspired. I went through the box from Kikki.K and picked out the ones that felt best suited to me, the ones I knew would kick my butt into gear if I started loosing sight of my dreams at any point.
I also wrote down all my hopes and dreams for 2019 and placed them in a sealed envelope (which I then hole punched into my planner). Some of these dreams are wild, while some I'm almost bound to achieve, but either way I'm already excited to read and reflect on them when 2020 hits!

VISUALISE:

As I said, being a creative person, I respond really well to visual aids, like stickers! The Kikki.K planner I chose came with a bunch (in pretty pastel colours), plus I had some leftover from last year too. I use these throughout my diary so that I can clearly identify events coming up, plus it makes me way more excited when stickers are involved! I also use things like sticky notes throughout my diary for things that might not be set in stone. That way I can chop and change them without messing up my planner!

ORGANISE:

One of the best things about the planner is how much you can organise it to your needs. I use a monthly calendar most, so I put this at the front and my weekly calendar next.
All the other sections I came up with myself (the planner comes with different types of paper e.g. lined, grid or plain) and used my resources to suit what I needed.
I have a small section for contacts, this is for things I often forget like my doctors name and number. Next I have an hourly planner, which I might not use everyday but when things are super busy, I like to map out my day in half an hour intervals so that I don't waste time and can realistically determine what I can get done. I know it's crazy, but it works.
I then have a section for notes and midnight musings, because you never know when inspiration will strike!

Oh, and I also reserved two of the planner sections for if I find I need to add anything else. After all, this is my first time!

You can find my Kikki.K planner here. Accessories and additions are available from the Kikki.K 'Less is More' range.
