WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A WEEKEND AT EVAMOR VALLEY MUDGEE

Monday, December 6, 2021

As an avid camper, there's a few things that keep me coming back.

Like having nowhere to be.
And relying on nothing but nature to become my alarm clock.
It's the chats we have across the bonfire.
And the way we connect when there's almost nothing around us except each other.
It's the smell of smoke I just can't get out of my hair.
And the sound of a tent zipper telling me it's time to get up in the morning.
It's the having everything and nothing all at once.
Simple and stripped back.

Well, that's exactly what you get when you stay at Mudgee's newest glamping experience; Evamor Valley. It's everything about camping you know and love, except instead of setting up in the rain and arguing with your partner over who forgot the tent poles, you walk right in to your eco-tent with everything set up (including the kitchen sink!).

Yep, if you like the idea of swapping sleeping bags for linen sheets and a king bed, this is a camping experience you'll want to put on your bucket list.

When you arrive you'll find all the luxuries you never knew you needed. From complimentary robes and slippers, to a fully fledged luxury bathroom, air-con, coffee machine and kitchenette, all styled to perfection.
You'll also find a private fire pit and BBQ, with a fully stocked kitchen full of utensils (so you can pack light!) and spend your weekend tucked away in your tent with absolutely no reason to leave.

Although, considering your eco-tent is perched on an 80 acre working farm, there's lots to explore outside the canvas walls. We wandered through the cow paddock all the way down to the billabong, and watched native kangaroos jump through the vines every morning right from our tent's front porch.

The property, which is situated right in the heart of Mudgee, also makes it all too easy to get into town and explore the region's array of delicious wineries.
With everything just a short drive away, we spent our time shopping at the local boutiques, cheese (and wine!) tasting as we ate our way through town!

The best part though? Enjoying locally sourced produce and a glass of wine right there in our eco-tent. After picking up a few goodies on our travels, we spent the entire evening talking around the fire pit and eating our favourite finds!

In between we played ring toss and doted on resident farm dog Jackie, who seemed to enjoy the fire chats and star gazing as much as we did.

With just a 3 hour drive, a good night's sleep and a weekend spent unplugged, we were able to completely reset with our stay at Evamor Valley.

7 Must-Dos When Travelling to Queenstown

Tuesday, July 30, 2019

When we touched down in Queenstown, our taxi driver told us we'd landed in the New Zealand equivalent of Disneyland. It didn't take long before I knew he was right, this place was magical, and there was enough to entertain us for a lifetime, let alone the next 8 days.

There are literally endless options, and we still have plenty more to tick off on our own Queenstown bucket list. But if you're heading out there soon (or need a list to convince you to!), here's 7 things you shouldn't leave without doing!

This is easily the most relaxing way to indulge in Queenstown's magical landscape! While there are hot pools right in Queenstown itself, we made the trek out to Omarama to completely soak up the experience!
Here you can enjoy a private tub for 1.5 hours, and after a few long days on the ski fields,  your body will 100% thank you for it.
I couldn't think of anything more peaceful than this, so if you want at least a few hours of pampering between all the adventure activities Queenstown has to offer, this is the one to put on your must-do list!

For us, Queenstown was always a snow holiday (with a few added bonuses!). The majority of our time was spent on the slopes as we were able to purchase a flexible 4 day pass that covered both Coronet Peak and The Remarkables ski fields. This meant we had four full days of snow time, but we could be flexible about when we used them during the week we were there.
We hired our gear up on the mountain and took the bus up and back everyday as they run every 20 minutes, plus the bus stop was almost out the front of our AirBnb (totally planned!).
I absolutely loved skiing The Remarkables, because the runs are varied and we had a group with all different abilities. They also have a pretty great terrain park which kept things interesting!

While I wouldn't normally suggest getting out of Queenstown, taking a day to explore the surrounds of this stunning town was one of my favourite parts of the trip!
The drive was a continuum of 'photo-opportunities' and we constantly stopped to take-in and capture the view. Some of the big ticket destinations included Wanaka and Lake Pukaki (both were stunning!) and we also hit the hot pools on the way.
Hiring a car was very affordable, so I would definitely jump at the opportunity to do this again, there is so much of the island left to see!

Yes, you read that right! Just out of Queenstown, at a little place called Underdog, you can take a team of beautiful husky dogs through the trails of the New Zealand Alps! The dogs are extremely well behaved and are literally jumping at the chance to run through the snow with you.
You can either lead your own team or have an experienced musher take you through, either way your in good hands, or should I say paws!

If you're looking for a good view, the Queenstown Hill Hike is a nice easy one, with lots to see when you hit the top!
It takes about 3 hours to do (round trip), but I'd highly recommend leaving some extra time to take photos once you're up the top. You'll get 360 degree views of Queenstown, so you can't help but take a few snaps.
If you're even more game, and have extra time, there are a bunch of other hikes around Queenstown that will take you even higher, like Ben Lomond, which is still on our list to tick off!

As a group, I think we'd all say luging was the most hilarious way to spend an afternoon! You need to take a gondola ride up the mountain and from there, the fun begins!
Don't be fooled by the little carts, this ride is a huge thrill, especially when you've got a competitive group of friends who are willing to do anything to beat you down the mountain. And yes, you can flip the carts, we tested that for you!

S E V E N  : W A T C H  T H E  S U N R I S E

We did this one every single day of our trip! We specifically booked accomodation that had the most picturesque views so that we wouldn't have to miss a single one, you could even see it from the bedroom!
On one particular morning, we decided to get out there before sunrise and completely bask in it as it began to rise. Believe me when I say, it was freezing, you will need gloves and at least 5 layers of clothing.
It will be totally worth it, especially once you've got a hot chocolate in your hands!

This definitely won't be our last trip to Queenstown; the most beautiful place I've ever been. I'd love to know what you think we should add to the list for our next visit!

A Long Weekend In Melbourne

Thursday, December 20, 2018

It wasn't until Scott's boss hinted that he should take a break (and use some of his 5+ weeks of annual leave) that we realised we'd not been on a holiday in over 12 months.

With all the house-buying, renovating, girl bossing, quitting of jobs and moving this year, we'd hardly thought about throwing any travelling into the mix.

But we needed a break, and a reward for everything we've achieved in this last year. So, we treated ourselves to a long weekend in Melbourne! We left with few plans, excited just to spend time with each other and the satisfaction of not having to answer to anyone for at least 72 hours.

Consider this your highlight reel:

W H E R E  W E  A T E :

We basically spent 90% of our time in Melbourne eating, so it makes sense to start with what Melbourne does best; damn good food!

We wanted to explore the city organically, so we headed out most days with no plans or expectations and gladly stumbled upon some amazing foodie spots. My two favourite finds were Pinkie and No.19 Society. I must admit, the aesthetics got me in, but the food in both was just as good!

If you're thirsty:
they are a licensed venue so it was Summer spritzes all round!
If you're hungry: if you're going past the all day breakfast you've got to try the macaroni and cheese hotdog, because how can a combo like that go wrong?!
Don't leave without trying: The raspberry cheesecake, it blew our minds!

P I N K I E

If you're thirsty:
this place is smoothie goals! Words like snickers, oreo and cappuccino are all on their smoothie menu so you can see what I mean.
If you're hungry: If you're a burger lover, you won't be disappointed with their classic beef burger!
Don't leave without trying: the banana bread, I don't even know how to explain how incredible this was. Just look at the pictures and wipe the drool from you mouth!

W H E R E  W E  S T A Y E D :

If you're looking for somewhere to stay in Melbourne, you can't got past Hotel Lindrum in the city's CBD. These guys have absolutely everything covered; spacious rooms, a breakfast buffet, hotel bar and a beyond convenient location (walking distance to most places and a tram on their street!).

The most charming thing about this hotel was their attention to detail, they've actually surveyed their customers (80% of which are women), to find out what they want.
Things like an in-room tea service are complimentary and when I couldn't bring my razor on the plane (since I only had carry on) I just asked reception and they brought one up!

They also brought me hairspray and a hair-tie from their 'survival kit' to save me from having to find these items when we arrived late in an unfamiliar city.

I could rave about how accomodating these guys were for ages, but the best way to see what I mean is to stay there for yourself!

W H E R E  W E  W E N T :

Apart from rolling from restaurant to restaurant in the CBD, we took a short trip to St Kilda not once, but twice during our trip!
I had no idea this coastal strip was just 30 minutes from the city via tram and it was a welcome change from city life! We spent one night having dinner on the esplanade, going for a long walk along the bay and stopping for a sunset ice-cream. Yes, it was date-night goals!

The next morning we headed back for the Sunday market which had over 100 unique stalls from local makers and creators. We did as much Christmas shopping as we could fit in our luggage and were both impressed by what was on offer, which included a Nutella crepe stand!

The outdoor cinema by the bay and Melbourne's Luna Park also looked fun, but we're saving those for our next visit!
